Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an estate sale and a garage sale?

To make it simple, a garage sale is typically when someone wants to sell some items from their household.  An Estate Sale is when a professional company is hired and facilitates the liquidation of an entire home.  The company arranges multiple advertising platforms, prices all inventory, and handles all sales transactions.

what are some circumstances you'd need to have an estate sale?

The most common reasons people need to have an estate sale are:

  1. Relocating
  2. Directed by will or trust documents
  3. Divorce
  4. Downsizing/redecorating
  5. Death of family member
  6. Bankruptcy
  7. Retirement

what if some of the inventory doesn't sell?

Any remaining items from the estate are either kept by client, can be donated to a local charity, or a buyout can be arranged where a company comes, pays client an agreed upon amount, and takes the remaining items.

How long does the process last from start to finish?

Because each estate is different, set up time for the sales varies.  Each sale typically runs between 1-3 days, depending upon the size of the estate.

can i have an estate sale if my house is listed for sale but hasn't sold yet?

YES!  An Estate Sale for a property being sold is a great way to generate additional crowds that may be interested in purchasing your property.  Several hundred people visit our sales each day and many times we are asked if the home is still for sale.  Interested buyers or Real Estate Agents can leave their card or contact information.

How much does it cost to have an estate sale?

The percentage charged on gross profits varies depending upon the size of the estate and how long it is estimated to take to prepare the sale.

why shouldn't i just do my own garage sale?

There is a real benefit to hiring an Estate Sale Services company to liquidate your estate.

  1.  Stress of selling items is lessened,
  2. Established relationships with dealers and appraisers helps to maximize sales
  3. If a Point of Sale system is used (we do!) sales tend to be higher as it enables customers to use cash, check and credit and debit.
  4. Convenience! Sales are run on site at your home, there is no need for buying boxes, bubble wrap, hiring a mover, etc.
  5. Quickest way to sell as much as possible at once-furniture, china, jewelry, knick-knacks, garage items and more.
